AB 1830 was introduced last Wednesday and it is all that we asked for — it would prevent lenders from running the kind of loan schemes that got us into the current mortgage mess. Ask your representative to support this important legislation and hold the mortgage industry accountable.

Letter	California and the United States cannot afford another mortgage meltdown. The struggling economy, decreased property values, and current budget deficit are all consequences of the shoddy lending practices that got us into this mess. AB 1830 (Lieu) will make sure something like this doesn't happen again. It will require lenders to act in the financial best interest of borrowers, require that borrowers not be issued loans they can't afford, and ban many of the unsound practices that created this problem.
