Those Pesky ATM Fees Keep Going Up
Last month Bank of America raised its ATM fees for non-customers to $3. Since most customers also pay a fee to their own bank as well for the use of "foreign" ATMs, consumers could pay $5 or more just to take out a twenty. Read the San Francisco Chronicle article today, which quotes CALPIRG's Federal Consumer Program Director Ed Mierzwinski. Here's Ed's blog from July, which broke the story. Watch the CBS newsclip from last night, which features CALPIRG's Emily Rusch. For a great backgrounder on ATM fees, and why banks should be paying us to use them, go to www.stopatmfees.com and read a great backgrounder by my colleague Kirk Weinert.
