Energy Service Corps Organizer:
Energy Service Corps is a joint project of CALPIRG Education Fund and AmeriCorps that works to improve energy efficiency in California. This year we are hiring graduating college students to join our program and work to tackle one of the most pressing environmental issues in California: energy efficiency. We organize service projects that bring together the community, educate local youth in classrooms about the importance of environmental stewardship, and provide our community members with energy assessments and home weatherization. CALPIRG Health Care Advocate:
CALPIRG is seeking a Sacramento-based Health Care Advocate to work with us to make health care more affordable and dependable for Californians. As lawmakers in Washington are poised to make meaningful changes to our current health care system, we need to be ready in California to implement reform in a way that puts consumer interests, rather than the health industry’s interests, first. Working with U.S.PIRG, our network of state-based organizations around the country, CALPIRG has been at the front lines of the national health care fight. But we know that to reduce the high cost of health care, make it more dependable, and give consumers more power when they are up against the insurance industry, we’re going to have our work cut out for us in Sacramento.

CALPIRG Campus Organizer:
Traditionally, students have stood on the front lines of social change. From the civil rights, anti-war, to gay rights movements, students have played a critical role. CALPIRG campus organizers tap student idealism and energy, and help student volunteers and activists turn their concerns into effective action . Campus organizers work on three to six campaigns in a semester, which could include: working to pass a clean energy bill in the state Legislature; increasing youth voter turnout in an upcoming election; or fighting hunger and homelessness in the local community. The role of a campus organizer is two-fold: achieve concrete social change and develop the next generation of leaders. Through this approach, campus organizers build the kind of power it takes to solve our country’s current problems while ensuring that legacy continues well into the future.

CALPIRG Fellowship:
The goal of the U.S. PIRG Fellowship Program is to develop recent college graduates into leaders in the movement for positive social change. Through the program, you’ll get the chance to work on issues from reforming health care to securing America’s financial future. As a U.S. PIRG fellow, you’ll gain the hands-on experience it takes to organize public support. You’ll build expertise on an important issue, such as transportation solutions, health care reform, or toxic pollution cleanup. You’ll conduct research, craft policy solutions, act as a spokesperson to the media, build coalitions, write grants, and recruit activists and members. So when the health care lobbyists and Wall Street banks try to stand in the way of reform, you’ll have the skills and resources to meet them head-on.

Citizen Outreach Staff:
This summer our top priority is our campaign for Safe Food, Healthy Kids. But if there's one thing that we've learned in our 35 years of advocacy, it's that citizen support and grassroots action are critical, especially when we come against opposition from powerful special interests like the factory farms. That's why we've partnered
with the Fund for the Public Interest to hire college students,
graduates, and activists across the state to go out into communities to
talk with citizens about the issues, raise money, and build membership
