L'Oréal: Pledge to Be Toxic-Free

Today, CALPIRG, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (a project of Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP)), and Safer Chemicals Healthy Families delivered more than 150,000 petition signatures calling on the multinational cosmetic giant L’Oréal USA to eliminate cancer causing chemicals and to disclose its secret “fragrance” chemicals.

Statement on House Financial Services Committee Passage of HR 10, the Wrong Choice Act

Today, the House Financial Services Committee approved HR 10, the so-called Financial Choice Act, on a straight party-line vote. We call it the Wrong Choice Act. The bill eviscerates the successful CFPB, which has returned $11.8 Billion to over 29 million consumers in less than six years. The bill repeals much of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act enacted to protect us after the 2008 financial collapse. Our statement is below.

Financial "Choice Act" is a Cruel "Choice" for California Consumers

Next Tuesday the House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (TX) will hold a mark-up on his so-called Financial Choice Act 2.0. “Californians were hit hard by the financial collapse and now depend on the consumer protections the financial Choice Act would eviscerate,” said Emily Rusch, Executive Director of CALPIRG. “We strongly urge Rep. Waters, Royce, Sherman, and Vargas to vote no.”

Bill to Set Limits on Rx Gifts to Doctors Has its First Vote

Today the Senate Health Committee will vote on CALPIRG-backed legislation by Senator Mike McGuire, SB 790, to rein in pharmaceutical company gifts to doctors. We believe this bill is an important complement to other efforts to increase transparency and accountability in the industry.
