California Could Save $246 Million With Simple, Proven Method to Curb Offshore Tax Dodging, New Study Finds

Sacramento, January 30th – California taxpayers could save $246 million from a simple reform to crack down on offshore tax dodging, according to a new report released today by CALPIRG. The reform, which has already been proven effective in Montana and passed in Oregon, would require companies to treat profits booked to notorious tax havens as domestic taxable income.

Report: Capital One Most-Complained-About Credit Card Company in California

Sacramento, CA - California consumers file more complaints about Capital One than any other credit card company, according to a report released today by CALPIRG Education Fund. The report, which looked at data from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) public Consumer Complaints Database, also found that California consumers filed the most credit card complaints.

Los Angeles a Hot Zone for Chemical Risks

Los Angeles, CA - CALPIRG and other community leaders pushed the Obama administration to take bold strides to reduce the danger posed to communities by high-risk chemical facilities surrounding Los Angeles during a public listening session at UCLA.  The listening session is part of an Executive Order from President Obama issued in response to accidents like the tragedy in West, TX tragedy that killed 14 people and razed nearby schools and homes, and the 2012 explosion at the Richmond, CA Chevron refinery that sent 15,000 people to the hospital.
